Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS Review
The Canon IXUS 860 IS is unusual in its design with its black edges and its large controls and touch control dial make it easy to operate.
It has an 8 megapixel CCD sensor, wide angle lens with 3.8x zoom, 4x digital zoom and optical image stabiliser (IS) technology which compensates for blurring due to camera shake at slower shutter speeds and full zoom.
IS in conjunction with the auto ISO shift gives even further protection against blurring, particulary with subject movement. The safety zoom and tele-converter offer extra zoom magnification.
The DIGIC III processor with face detection AF/AE/FE provides a quick response to give excellent quality and clarity to your image. When taking portrait shots, the face detection technology will seek out the faces and automatically select the best focus, exposure and flash settings. The IXUS 860 IS has 17 shooting modes in addition to My Colors, shooting modes already have the best settings preselected to suit certain scenes and these include; kids & pets, portrait and beach whilst My Colors, which can be applied both during and after shooting, includes sepia, black & white, vivid, neutral and dark/light skin tone.
The Canon IXUS 860 IS has a generous 3" P-Si TFT PureColor LCD screen giving approximately 100% coverage and still images are stored as JPEG (Exif2.2), DCF and DPOF with movies stored as AVI Motion JPEG +WAVE. VGA movies with sound can be shot at 30fps (640x480/320x240) and 15fps (160x120). A rechargeable Li-ion battery NB-5L is supplied with the Canon IXUS 860 IS which has an approximate life of 240 shots/360 min. playback. ISO equivalents are auto, high ISO auto, 80/100/200/400/800/1600, White Balance is auto, daylight, fluorescents, tungsten, cloudy and custom; flash modes are auto, manual on/off, slow sync and red-eye reduction. Whilst in playback mode the face detection technology allows red-eye to be corrected without detriment to the image.
SD/SDHC/MMC/MMCplus/HCMMCplus memory cards are compatible with the Canon IXUS 860 IS and a 32MB memory card is supplied with the package. The Canon IXUS 860 IS is PictBridge compatible.
