Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II Review
Protected by a water resistant magnesium alloy body the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II has the features and durability of a professional EOS body. The EOS 1Ds Mark II's 16.7 megapixel CMOS sensor produces files which convert to 50MB uncompressed TIFF at 24 bit colour depth such as those used by agencies and libraries.
The combination of the CMOS sensor, DIGIC II and a large buffer system delivers 4fps 32 frame large JPEG continuous shooting The EOS 1DS also features a built-in low-pass filter which eliminates cloudy effects and ensures that colours are true to life.
The Canon EOS 1Ds stores still images as JPEG (Exif 2.2)/DPOF which can be stored in folders (consecutive numbering, auto reset and manual reset). Its back-up mode allows dual recording to both CF and SF memory cards. The EOS 1Ds has a pentaprism viewfinder and images can be viewed on the 2" TFT LCD with approximately 100% coverage and five levels of brightness. Focus and composition can also be checked on the LCD and in addition to simultaneously shooting RAW and JPEG, sRGB or Adobe RGB colour space can also be selected. Information on the viewfinder includes cover on AF, exposure, ISO speed, and flash.
ISO speed equivalents are 100-1600 in 1/3-stop increments and can be expanded to L:50 or H:3200. White balance modes include auto, daylight, shade, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent, flash and custom and up to three personal WB settings can be registered. The E-TTLII auto-flash system is accurate and reliable in all conditions as it achieves correct exposure and stable control.
The EOS 1Ds is PictBridge compatible and runs on 1 x Ni-MH battery pack NP-E3, 1x CR2025 for date and settings. Battery life is approximately 1200 at 20 degrees and approximately 800 at 0 degrees.

This is definitely a camera for the professionals.
The price is huge and the camera complex. However, it is an exceptional camera producing exceptional results, I don't think there is anything else that Canon could have included.

I wouldn't be able to afford this one myself but was given one on loan to try.
It is certainly not a camera to suit everyone and most of us would need to upgrade our computers. It is really a camera for the professionals with a list of specifications as long as your arm - difficult to believe that they can all be housed in this body.
Produces superb image clarity, is well built but not simple to use and on the heavy side. I did find it very useful to have all the settings on the viewfinder because you can then concentrate on your image.
Not for me but I am sure there is a large professional market out there.
