Canon PowerShot A510 Review
For excellent photos, each function on the PowerShot A510 works with you and the Canon Visionary Technology ensures that you achieve correct colouring and precision images. This is possible because of the quality lens, precision sensor and opitimal exposure which form part of this Canon PowerShot A510 makeup.
This PowerShot A510 does most of the work for you because it looks at the scene and automatically makes adjustments, before you have pressed the shutter release, using the 9-point AiAF.
The PowerShot A510, which is affordable, helps you experiment with all aspects of digital photography even if you are a beginner. Those who are experimenting for the first time will have no difficulty in obtaining very good results whereas those more adventurous will be able to experiment with the many advanced technologies available within the PowerShot A510. This 3.2 Megapixel Canon camera is loaded with great manual features and has a 4x optical zoom, higher than in some similar camers, to bring the action close to you.
There are 20 fantastic shooting modes which include some special scenes which are ideal for use when shooting conditions are difficult but you do not want to use the manual controls. Also as an optional extra a waterproof case is available so shots can be taken underwater. A range of colour effects are available such as Neutral, Black and White, Sepia and Vivid.
Another plus with this Canon PowerShot A510 camera is the ability to take movie clips of up to 3 minutes which can then be played back with sound on the 1.8" LCD monitor. As the A510 records 30 second VGA clips it is also possible to achieve high definition playback on TV.
It is easy to print to any Canon Direct Print or a PictBridge compatible printer and the print/share button simplifies uploading to a Windows PC. Sequences of movie clip frames and ID photos can also be produced if you are able to connect to a Canon SELPHY Compact Photo Printer.
Photo albums can be arranged, photographs cropped and adjustments made to contrast and brightness when using Canon ZoomBrowser EX (for Windows) and ImageBrowser (for Macintosh). These images can also be shared using the 100MB free storage available on CANON iMAGE GATEWAY.
Optional accessories available include wide and tele converters (a new look to your images), large capacity rechargeable batteries, a 40m depth waterproof case and a High-Power Flash which will extend the range at night.

I have had this camera for 9 months and have been very pleased with it.
Particularly impressive are it's capabilities in low light/night time situations, where the slow shutter speeds enable some pretty impressive pictures to be taken.
All shots were pretty sharp with good detail.
Daylight photos are very good too.
Battery life is good when using NiMH rechargables, managing well over 150 shots, half of which were in low light situations.
Overall, a very versatile camera.

I bought my A510 as an ex-display model in a local store since it has been discontinued; you wouldn't belive how little I paid and I was going to use it for work where I occasionally have to take photos of manufacturing errors and problems. However the performance is so good that I took it on holiday to the USA last autumn and took around 600 photos in a week. Setting the format to finest detail and largest image size means amazing detail in the photos for a humble 3.2 megapixel camera. With so many manual options it was also easy to get great night shots - shame it doesn't have a higher ISO facility or else it would be a perfect all-rounder, but then it is a comparatively old design these days. The camera feels substantial and there are plenty of options that can be tailored to your own preferences. Overall I rate it as an amazing buy - but maybe too complicated for the novice photographer (although you can always just leave it on auto mode!)

The powershot a510 is a perfect point and shoot camera for all the family to use. It has some manual features, but I generally leave it in automatic mode. I have taken some wonderful pictures of my kids playing in the garden, and even when they are running around I always manage to get them in focus. The only problem with this camera is the battery compartment cover which is a bit flimsy and feels like it could break off.

I bought this camera 5 weeks ago and I've really put it through it's paces, from landscape to close up shots it has coped well with everything, the only thing it struggled with was shots taken in a dimly lit room where it finds it hard to focus properly, but all in all this is a great camera.

I purchased this camera as a replacement to my old Sony P52, there is no comparison, the powershot A510 seems very reliable and easy to use, I can print my photos up to A4 size without any real loss in quality, and it's small enough to carry with you wherever you go. It does have some advanced features for the more adventurous, but also has a very simple to use automatic mode. The LCD screen is bright and clear and I've had no problems seeing it in a variety of different lighting situations. I would definately recommend it.

I bought camera as my wife and I have just had our first child, so we wanted to have a good camera to take lots of pictures of our new baby girl. We can print off our pictures as soon as we take them. Really easy to operate. Good camera for on the spot shots.

Bought this camera for my 12 year old daughter who normally takes loads of photos which when developed are mostly people with their heads cut off, since buying this digital camera I can see which photos are worth printing off. As it is for a 12 year old it looks good and is really easy to use.
