Canon PowerShot A610 Review
The Canon PowerShot A610 is a camera for everyday use, its versatility as a 5.0 Megapixel camera gives it the ability to achieve success every time by making use of its many features, power and resolution.
This camera appears to have a thought process of its own as the DIGIC II does the work for you by linking the various functions and processes available within this PowerShot A610. It is able to operate at high speed and uses a help factor called iSAPS which automatically puts settings into place to ensure high quality shots are set up before the button is even pressed.
Using the 4x optical zoom, which is higher than in other cameras of this spec, quality long or short distance shots can be assured with the digital zoom giving 16x magnification. Using the Super Macro, shots can be taken as close as 1cm with off-centre subjects being kept in focus automatically with the 9-point AiAF. However, if you prefer to manually select the focus then Flexizone AF/AE is provided so that you can decide.
The Canon PowerShot A610 with its 2.0" LCD which turns in all directions encourages a more creative outlook with the additional help of grid lines for composition and levelling horizons. It also gives you the opportunity of taking a few self portraits.
There are 20 shooting modes including specials such as Night Snapshot, Indoor, Snow, Foliage, Beach, Underwater (using the optional extra 40m depth waterproof case), Kids & Pets and Fireworks. These are under manual control and will allow you to be more creative in your shooting. The My Colors feature also means that actual colours will be recorded and colour effects can be applied.
With this Canon PowerShot A610 you can also try your hand at making your own high quality movies with sound track - there is fast frame mode at 60 fps (QVGA), standard at 30 fps (VGA) and compact e-mail mode (QQVGA).
As well as the case mentioned above, optional accessories also include a 0.7x wide converter lens, 1.75x tele-converter lens and slave flash.
Quality prints can be obtained when connected to any PictBridge or Canon Direct Print compatible photo printer with ID photos or Movie prints being produced when connected to a Canon SELPHY Compact Photo Printer. The Canon PowerShot A610 has a 5.0 Megapixel CCD sensor which allows the production of high quality prints up to A3 and for image cropping. Fast uploads of stills and movies can done when USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connects the PowerShot A610 to a computer.
If available in your area, an online photo gallery can be stored using the CANON iMAGE GATEWAY which provides 100MB of web space. A comprehensive software suite is included for browsing, editing, downloading and organising photos, movies and slide shows.

The A610 was given to me as a present on my 18th birthday. I have always been interested in taking photographs and was going on a three week holiday to the States, so my aunt and uncle thought I would probably make good use of it. I found it just the right size to carry around and very user friendly. Lots of modes to chose from and the aufocus is great. Took hundreds of shots and the prints are so good that when I get them out to have another look, I can imagine myself to be back there again. It is also very easy to link up to a computer.

I am having great fun and being very creative with my A610 because with the manual, automatic and scene modes available I haven't yet run out of ideas. This camera is an ideal size for me, not too small or too large to take around with me. It is extremely user friendly even for a 'learner' like myself and I have printed off some really excellent photos, in fact they are all so good I am quickly filling up my albums. I think that this camera really offers great value for money, who would have thought something so small could produce something so professional.

Did my research first and decided that the A610 would be the digital camera for me, and I have not been disappointed.
It is amazing how many features there are in this size of camera, there seems to be one for every occasion which means that I rarely take a bad shot.
Image and colour quality are clear and true to life. I have taken some interesting shots of flowers which I am going to use when making cards for friends and family - they will certainly be receiving something unique from me. I will need to find a good winter scene for my Christmas ones.
Have had one or two goes at taking video clips but I need more practise with this one.

For me, the A610 was a bit disappointing. I suppose because of all I had read about it that my expectations were too high. It takes good outdoor photos and has good resolution but when taking people shots I experienced a lot of red-eye problems. Also the automatic flash is too strong.
However, it is easy to use and has many manual and automatic features to interest me so perhaps it will grow on me.

Ideal size, very user friendly, lots of features - I was chuffed when my brother gave me his A610 to try out. I was a bit wary of experimenting at first as it didn't belong to me but that didn't last very long and I was trying all the different modes. Love the scene modes and have tried a few self portraits without managing to crack the lens! Image quality is very good, colour is natural and it is very easy to connect to the pc.
A great camera - I want one please.
