Canon PowerShot A700 Review
Even though compact the Canon PowerShot A700 has a 6x optical zoom lens and real-image optical viewfinder. This combined with the 6 megapixel CCD sensor creates and produces high quality, precisely detailed photographs.
The PowerShot A700 offers nineteen shooting modes, including a Manual mode, nine special scene modes and the My Colors feature. With all of these helpful features on board it will be very difficult to produce a substandard picture whether you are a beginner or a semi professional.
High speed response is contributed by the Canon DIGIC II image processor and this also extends the life of the battery. With the iSAPS technology within the PowerShot A700, details of the scene are registered by the camera and the correct settings automaticaly put into place before the shot is taken and the 9-point AiAF means that off-centre subjects can be kept sharply in focus. If however, you prefer to select focus points manually then FlexiZone AF/AE can be used.
Another quality feature is the high speed ISO 800 setting which will set the correct exposure for low light without the use of a flash and, because of the high shutter speeds, the risk of blurring is less.
The PowerShot A700 has a large 2.5" wide viewing angled LCD so that more than one can view at a time. The LCD also has the facility of a night display mode which helps with visibility in low light conditions together with grid lines to help with the arrangement of your shot.
Images can be taken in the widescreen mode to be played back on a widescreen television or for printing onto larger paper - suitable for panoramic shots.
VGA quality 30 fps audio movies can be taken or 60fps QVGA movies.
The A700 is compatible with PictBridge or Canon Direct Print and produces quality prints instantly.
If CANON iMAGE GATEWAY is available this will provide you with 100MB of web space for your personal use.
The range of optional accessories available with the A700 include wide and tele converter lenses, close-up lens and a slave flash.

Have only recently acquired this camera but so far I have been well impressed.
I have been using the PowerShot A60 and thought it was time for a change but did not want to change from Canon. I have tried other makes of camera but, for me, Canon does it every time.
The PowerShot A700 seemed a fairly logical move forward and I have not regretted my choice to date. I snap fairly general subjects, people/places, and have printed off some excellent photos.
If I had to be picky it would be that the two batteries do not give a very long life.

I was recommended the A700 by my local camera shop, having talked through with them my expectations of a camera. It turned out to be the right choice for me as I find it very easy to use, I get excellent photos and I like the feel of using it, it is very comfortable. Flash recycle is a bit slow but I get great pictures so I can live with that. I have been fairly cautious with my shots so far but I know that this camera will be of use to me for some time because of the range of features that are available.

Mainly good things to say about the A700. Although small it has a 6x optical zoom, the 2.5" LCD screen is a bonus, it runs on AA batteries, easy to use, good image quality and not expensive. The only slightly adverse comment I would make at this point is that the flash system is weak.

I quite like owning an A700 because it is full of good features, is compact but can incorporate 6x optical zoom and 6 megapixels. Good quality photographs have been printed off and having a 2.5" angled LCD is extremely useful when with other people. Flash could be improved.
