With the help of Canon's DIGIC processor accurate images are obtained because of the speedy execution, resulting in fast start-up times, accurate focusing and metering. Longer battery life is also a bonus.

The G6 has a 7.1 Megapixel resolution which produces prints in excess of A3 size without any loss of detail whilst iSAPS improves auto exposure, auto white balance and auto focus accuracy by calculating the shooting situation having monitored the settings and readings.

When to be speedy is important, the 9-point AiAF comes into play by focusing speedily on your subject, even if it is off centre. FlexiZone AF/AE will allow you to scroll and select the auto focus point from across the frame.

The Canon G6 can cover a focal length range of 7.2 to 28.8 mm and using the fast f/2.0 - f/3.0 lens is great for low light conditions.

There are 12 different shooting modes which you can choose from by using the SLR-style Mode Dial and two customised modes can be created enabling you to use your favourite combination.

Compatibility with all Canon Speedlite flash units results in a professional lighting finish whilst the optional choice of converter lenses will give an extended range to the G6.

After your shots have been taken, the PowerShot G6 can utilise JPEG and lossless RAW image recording at the same time, giving greater flexibility and you can manage your work more efficiently using ZoomBrowser (Windows) and ImageBrowser (Mac).

Connection to PictBridge and Canon Direct Print conformity will allow the G6 to print directly to any compatible photo printer.

If CANON iMAGE GATEWAY is available in your area, this will provide 100MB of free internet space, images can be shared and online photo albums produced.

My last camera was a Nikon Coolpix but after it was dropped a few times it stopped working, so I decided to treat myself to a new one, I looked around for quite a few months before deciding on the PowerShot G6. What an excellent camera, it has so many features compared to my old camera that I don't know where to start. The thing that impressed me most was the speed of it, once you turn it on you are ready to take your first shot in just a couple of seconds, and once you have taken a shot you are ready for your next straight away, with my old camera you were always waiting for it.

The screen is excellent, you can move it to all different positions and its large enough to see clearly in most lights. The G6 fits in your hand really well, with all major buttons in easy reach. The photos that I have taken have been amazing quality, from landscape to indoor shots, and the 7 megapixels mean that I can print them on A3 paper with no loss in quality. You can get loads of accessories for it as well, it has a hotshoe for an external flash and you can also use different lenses providing you have the correct adapter.

The 4 x zoom is quite impressive, and you get a remote control which is excellent for taking photos at full zoom or when the camera is on a tripod. The powershot G6 is also great at taking action shots, my sister rides horses and I have taken some great shots of her.

I did a lot of research before buying this camera, and the G6 came up time and again as being the best choice. I bought this camera as a replacement to my aging power shot A80, which I loved using. So far I have been very happy with it, it has the usual Canon build quality and the image quality is superb. If you have owned a canon digital camera before you will have no problems learning how to use it. I would definately recommend this camera to anyone looking for a decent quality camera without spending loads on an SLR.

I love this camera, it has all of the features of an SLR but without the pricetag, but don't buy if you're looking for a camera that will fit in your pocket.
