Canon PowerShot S3 IS Review
The Canon PowerShot S3 IS, having 6 megapixel CCD sensor, will ensure that each photograph you take will contain enough detail to allow printing in a larger size. It also has a powerful 12x optical zoom and therefore, to eliminate camera shake, Canon have also incorporated their optical image stabiliser technology within the PowerShot S3 IS unit.
There is a selection of twenty shooting modes (including Manual) and eight special scene modes to choose from depending on whatever your chosen situation may be. Choose any of the automatic modes and the S3 IS will select the correct settings for your particular situation thus achieving the best conditions for your shot.
iSAPS technology picks up relevant information in order that optimum settings are selected whilst the DIGIC II image processor will give 3fps continuous shooting.
In low light conditions or whilst shooting indoors, The ISO 800 feature shoots at higher shutter speed and therefore reduces the risk of blurring and, in low light conditions or indoor, it allows shots to be taken without flash.
The PowerShot S3 IS has a 2" multi angled LCD with incorporating a night display function which makes it easier to read the screen at night.
Panoramic photographs are easy to reproduce with the S3 IS as the widescreen 16:9 still image recording can deal with printing onto wider paper or can playback onto a widescreen TV.
30fps VGA quality audio movies or 60fps QVGA movies can be made.
The Canon S3 IS can be connected to any PictBridge or Canon Direct Print compatible photo printer to produce prints in seconds.
A software package is included and if CANON iMAGE GATEWAY is available to you this will give 100 MB of web space.
There is a wide range of optional accessories avaialable including wide and tele converter lenses, soft case and slave flash.

I was going to buy a digital SLR as I had a few lenses from my old film camera. I'm glad I didn't. The Canon is much smaller and with the great x12 zoom and excellent battery life it is a pleasure to carry around.

i am 12 yrs old, and got into photography in the summer of 2006, and was using a 3 megapixel camera which belonged to my father, yet i still longed after a camera of my own. like any enthusiast, i wanted a d-slr, but with the price and the lenses , i did not feel i was quite ready. so instead i saw a reveiw of this camera, and instantly fell in love with it. i recieved one as a present for christmas, and since, have been building a collection of accesories for it , including wide angle lens adapters and macro lenses, hoods and filters. since i got this camera, i have wathched my own photographic abilities and "eye for a photo" improve drastically. i can find no fault with this camera, it is perfect size and weight, the grip fits perfectly into my hands and it takes beautiful pictures of anything. it leaves me wanting for absolutely nothing......except a d-slr.

Bought this because i've never been disappointed with Canon, i'm pleased to say that continues. Big, big, lens on a relatively small camera, AA batteries so power is always available and the vari angle screen is incredibly useful for creative and macro photography. I paid £330 for mine shortly after they launched but now they are much cheaper and even better value. Perhaps a raw mode and a wider angle lens for the future S4 Canon? In the meantime i'm more than happy with the S3 and would recommend it to all ages and abilities.

I upgraded from the S2 IS to the S3 IS but have to say that there are only a few small improvements between the two models.
To be honest I should have stayed with the S2 IS but, for anyone buying into this range, they might as well buy the S3.

I bought this camera as soon as it hit the shops, so far I have been very impressed, I dont think it has that many advantages over the S2 IS but for me, coming from a much older canon camera this is fantastic. I had been very pleased with my last canon digital camera so wanted to stay with the same manufacturer. The image quality is great and it fits in my hand really well. I think the vari-angle screen is a bit of a gimmic but can be useful in some situations. Images are sharp and have great colour reproduction, the screen is bright and clear and battery life is better than expected. Overall a great camera.
