Casio Exilim Hi-Zoom EX-V8 Review

The Casio Exilim Hi-Zoom EX-V8, even though compact, houses a non-protruding 7x optical zoom lens which together with 8.29 megapixels and 4x digital zoom is capable of taking high resolution photographs.

It also features the YouTube mode which produces quality videos suitable for YouTube (the popular online site for the sharing of videos worldwide) and the package also includes software application that enables movies to be uploaded quickly and easily.

Anti Shake DSP is inbuilt and this compensates for blurriness due to moving subjects and shaky hands by using faster shutter speeds and higher ISO sensitivity - even at high zoom the Casio EX-V8 reduces the effects of image blurring. Focus range includes normal, macro and manual and focus modes are contrast detection (auto focus), manual, auto, macro and infinity together with AF assist light. Recording formats are: still as JPEG (Exif Ver 2.2), DCF, DPOF, movies as H.264/AVC.MOV, WAV.

The Exilim EX-V8 is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery (NP-50) with an approximate charge life of 240 images, continuous playback of 6 hours and continuous recording of 1 hour 40 minutes. Images are stored in the 11.8 MB internal memory or there is a card slot which can take SD/SDHC/MMC/MMCplus. Playback functions include; still image, 9 image display, movie, slideshow, calendar and favourites folder. The Casio Exilim Hi-Zoom EX-V8 has a super bright 2.5" digital TFT colour LCD.

Flash modes are auto, off, on, soft and red-eye reduction, ISO sensitivity equivalents are auto, 50/100/200/400/800 and White Balance offers auto, manual and 6 fixed modes. Recording modes are still, still with audio, movie with audio, movie BEST SHOT and BEST SHOT which has 34 preselected scenarios.

The Casio EX-V8 weighs approximately 149g without batteries and measures 95.5 x 59.8 x 25.5mm and its package includes; battery, USB cable and cradle, wrist strap, 2x CD-ROM, AV cable and AC adaptor.
