Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z500 Review

Don't miss another shot with the Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z500 with its rapid start up of approximately 1.6 seconds and 0.01 second shutter release lag time. Powered by a proprietary Super Life rechargeable lithium-ion battery which can achieve 500 images on a single charge, the Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z500 produces quality pictures.

Incorporating 5 megapixels, 3x optical and 4x digital zoom (12x zoom in total) the Exilim Zoom EX-Z500, with the addition of Anti Shake DSP, produces high quality pictures under a variety of situations. Images can be easily viewed on the extra large 2.7" TFT colour LCD and, if not required, can be deleted singly or in total. Playback functions include; nine image display, rotation, calendar, still (4x zoom), favourites folder, slideshow and movie.

The Casio EX-Z500 includes a BestShot feature which gives a choice of 31 scenarios where optimum settings have already been selected for individual scene shots. The use of this mode will ensure that high quality pictures are achievable even by a beginner.

Focus modes within the Casio Exilim EX-Z500 include manual, auto, macro, infinity, pan, AF assist light and contrast AF with ranges of manual from 17cm, normal from 40cm and macro between 17 and 50cm.

Flash options are flash on, flash off, auto and red-eye reduction with ranges of 0.4 to 2.4m (W) and 0.4 to 1.3m (T). ISO sensitivity with the Exilim EX-Z500 is from ISO 50 to ISO 400 (automatic or manual) with ISO 800 being implemented when taking pictures on Anti-Shake or High Sensitivity. Anti-Shake compensates for blurry pictures caused by moving subjects or shaking hands.

AVI (Motion JPEG) movies can be taken, length depending upon memory and battery life available.

Not having had a digital camera before I did quite a lot of research and, in the end, decided on the Z500 as I felt it would suit me best.

It has a great start up time and gives me a lot of help with the BESTSHOT mode. Size is good and I find the large screen helpful.

Have taken a video and this and my photographs have turned out very well.
