I am your normal holiday punter; I just look for an easy to use camera that gives good pictures. I am not into iso's, aperture readings, noise levels, etc. As you will tell by my previous cameras a Sanyo 1.3 Meg, about 8 years ago, followed by a Samsung 4.meg about 4 years ago. The main problems I had was with the battery life, the Sanyo had 1500 mah AA batteries and you always had to carry spares. The Samsung just ate batteries even though I had 2100 mah. AA's.
So when I came to buy a new camera, battery life was the main concern. After all you can have the best camera in the world but if the batteries a flat you are knackered. After reading loads of reviews. I decided on the Fuji F30.
First holiday was to Shammy Shake in Egypt for 7 days, great pictures and the battery life indicator never moved (60 pictures and 2 short vid's).
Next hols. Dominican Rep. for 14 days, as weight was an issue I decided not to take charger, no problem took around 120 pics and 3 short vid's. Indicator never moved.
The other thing I like about this camera is its ability to take photographs without flash, day or night. An example was a street shot at night; with flash just got about 20 foot of the street but without, the whole street could be clearly seen, and when inside you are not the pillock with his camera flashing every 2 minutes and getting on peoples nerves. You can take photo's without disturbing anyone.
Fuji quote a battery life of 580 shots, I cannot confirm this but my son is going to Australia for a month, so I will give him the camera and a spare battery, no charger,
You might ask what I will use for a camera whilst he's away, no competition I have just bought the new Fuji F31 fd (£118 inc. post.) and guess what it was cheaper than the original F30, now that's what I call a bargain.
I confirm I am not an employee or in financial payment from Fuji, mores the pity, if you read this Fuji send me a new camera the F40fd please, please, please.
I did consider the new F40fd but they have put the smaller battery in it (300 shots). Also its £25 more and do you need 8 meg's for everyday photo's.
The one negative I have on the F30 & F31 is that the only way to view the object being taken is through the LCD screen and on a couple of occasions in very bright sunshine, I have had to guess the picture. I was wondering if they could install maybe a small eye viewer that popped up out of the top of the camera. It does not need to be a lens just a simple piece of plastic/metal with a hole in it. Just something so that you can see what your taking.
thanks. I used your reviews as well as others when making my decision about buying the camera, hope this helps others.
