Fuji FinePix V10 Zoom Review

The Fuji FinePix V10 Zoom has 5.1 megapixel Super CCD HR, 3x optical and 5.7x digital zoom, auto focus and produces high quality results.

Images are stored on xD-Picture Card, still images as JPEG (Exif Ver 2.2) and movies as AVI (Motion JPEG), WAV. VGA movies can be shot at 30fps. Images can be viewed on the large 3" low temperature polysilicon TFT LCD monitor that has approximately 100% coverage.

There are a variety of playback modes such as single frame, image rotation and automatic playback and four arcade-style games are included.

The Fuji V10 Zoom is powered by NP-40 rechargeable battery or an AC power adaptor AC-5VW which is included within the package. An AC power adaptor AC-5VH is available as an optional accessory. The built-in flash has various flash modes including; auto, red-eye reduction, forced flash and slow synchro.

Sensitivity is auto/equivalent to ISO 64/100/200/400/800/1600 and White Balance has automatic, manual - fine, fluorescents, shade and incandescent.

The Fuji FinePix V10 Zoom has a range of shooting modes; normal, auto, scene (portrait, landscape, natural light and light with flash) and colour mode choices of black & white, chrome and standard.

The Fuji FinePix V10 is PictBridge compatible.

I was looking for an up-to-date point-and-shoot for my family's use especially for our daughter's school activities.

While the V10's screen is amazing I have to say that the image quality is not what I expected; in fact it's much worse.

Note that I have used many digital cameras from pocket-size to bulkier SLR-types over a ten+ year period and find that this camera is giving me and my family the least bang for the buck of any that we have owned or used.

Low-light image quality without flash is terrible.

Sports shots, even in a well-lit gym or outdoors in bright sunlight, produce poor images nineteen out of twenty tries.

If the zoom is used then the subject is blurry or extremely grainy.

Also note that I often utilize a tripod or monopod to assist in my shots.

I sent many examples of these images to the folks at Fuji Support and received no real help at all.

I have a much older Ricoh RDC-7 that, today, still takes better overall images; Fuji should be embarrassed!

I've looked (from Fuji and elsewhere) for suggestions on how to better use this camera (if there are any) and will continue to but it's turning out to be just a highly-compact camera only suited for images to be displayed on its own screen and little more; I'm lucky to come away with a few good shots out of a hundred for display on a computer or to be printed.

Perhaps I received a camera with flaws but while trying to deal with Fuji Support and receiving such a poor response to my (constructive) complaint I have no confidence in Fuji to respectfully handle this situation.

Good luck to those enjoying their V10 but I'll find another company to spend my time and money with.

This is my second Fuji - I upgraded from an M603 was great but is a bit chunky now. It's about 4 years old I think. I wanted a camera that had a large screen, would fit comfortably in my pocket, was idiot proof and would accept my strange collection of xD cards (all of varying sizes) which would save me having to buy more memory. The V10 was the answer to my dreams. I use a Crumpler PP70 case which is a perfect fit and the camera itself performs perfectly. I'm classified by my wife as a crap photographer but I carry the camera with me almost everywhere and some of my shots must come out perfect! I love its simplicity, great screen and excellent performance.

I was looking for a camera that was not too complicated to use and although this one has a considerable manual (which I will read eventually) I have been happy taking a generality of quality photos.

It has a good battery life and the 3" LCD is marvellous.

Recommended for general purpose photos.
