Kodak EasyShare P712 Review
The Kodak EasyShare P712 zoom digital camera allows creativity to expand using its powerful zoom and professional lens.
The 7 megapixel CCD Kodak P712 with its 12x Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon optical zoom lens performs speedily to enable you to obtain the crispest shot with the assistance of the image stabiliser at longer zoom ranges and slower shutter speeds. The EasyShare P712 also has 5x advanced digital zoom giving a total range of 60x zoom.
The image stablisation system also assists in the production of TV quality videos (VGA) with sound. Video format is QuickTime, motion JPEG with VGA (640 x 480) and QVGA ( 320 x 240) at 30fps. Length is dependent upon available memory and can be continuous up to 80 minutes. The 12x xoom can be operated during shooting for close shots, on-camera editing is a feature and prints can be created.
The Kodak P712 produces excellent quality prints (up to 30 x 40 inches) in vivid true to life colour. Still format is JPEG/EXIF v 2.21, RAW, TIFF.
PASMC (programme, aperture, shutter, manual and custom modes) allows you to be creative by offering choices which the EasyShare P712 will remember until any changes are made. These allow you to either use the programme mode where selections are chosen for you or give you the freedom to make decisions regarding aperture and shutter speed. It is also possible to create your own capture mode. Additional settings include auto-focus control, custom white balance, sharpness and contrast.
The Kodak P712 also offers the choice of preset scene modes which include portrait modes, landscape modes, beach and snow, action, close-up, text, sunset and candlelight. It also includes the panorama stitch mode where two or three shots can be combined together to make one large picture. The EasyShare P712 has a choice of five colour modes; high/natural/low colour, sepia and black and white.
ISO sensitivity range with the P712 is 64/80/100/125/160/200/250/320/400/800 with White Balance in auto, cloudy, open shade, daylight, tungsten, fluorescent, sunset and custom. Flash modes include; auto, fill, off, slow sync and red-eye reduction. There is also a hot shoe flash connector and the KODAK P20 zoom flash is available as an optional accessory go give more control over lighting.
Images can be viewed on the 2.5" high resolution indoor/outdoor colour display or the high resolution electronic viewfinder.
KODAK EASYSHARE software is included within the Kodak EasyShare P712 package and this works with the optional EASYSHARE cameras and docks to enable transfer and sharing at the touch of a button - a simple way to view, edit, and print from a computer. The Camera Dock Series 2 allows pictures to be instantly uploaded onto a computer and will charge the battery (KODAK Li-Ion KLIC-5001 or KLIC-5000) in less than 3.5 hours. The EASYSHARE Printer Dock Plus Series 3 will operate with or without a computer.
