Kodak EasyShare P850 Review
The Kodak EasyShare P850 produces an exceptional image quality with the use of 12x all glass Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon optical zoom lens with its image stabiliser operating on longer zoom ranges and slower shutter speeds. The Kodak P850 also features 3.3x advanced digital zoom and the 5 megapixel sensor produces excellent resolution with the KODAK colour science feature ensuring that colours are captured true to life.
The EasyShare P850 is powered by the Li-Ion rechargeable battery included in the package with an optional 5V AC adaptor available. Power up is fast and performance responsive. Images and videos are stored on the 32 MB internal memory and SD/MMC cards can be used in addition to this.
Still format is JPEG/EXIF v 2.21 RAW, TIFF with video format being QuickTime, motion JPEG (video) and PCM (audio). VGA videos can be captured at 30fps (640 x 480), zoom can be used whilst filming and on-camera editing can be carried out. Pictures can be viewed on the high resolution electronic viewfinder and 2.5" LCD with indoor/outdoor colour control.
Various manual choices are offered by the Kodak EasyShare P850 but there are also preset scene modes available which include landscape, portrait, sunset and candlelight (low light), beach and snow (bright light) sports, close-up and text. Colour choices include black and white, sepia and high/low/natural colour.
ISO equivalents range from 50 to 800 with White Balance of auto, daylight, fluorescent, tungsten, open shade, cloudy and sunset. The Kodak P850 has a built in flash offering auto, fill, off, red-eye reduction and algorithm. There is also auto programme mode where the camera sets shutter speed and aperture together with additional modes which allow you to either make some of the decisions or all in respect of capture modes. For extra lighting control a hot shoe flash connector is included.
The EasyShare P850 is part of the KODAK EASYSHARE SYSTEM and the software is included with the camera. This enables you to tag pictures to e-mail or print later, lets you share your on-camera album immediately and the system also allows you to work with cameras and docks to enable easy transfer and sharing of images. An easy way to view, edit, organise and print from a computer.
The Camera Dock transfers at the touch of a button and uploads images to a computer and can also charge the battery in under 3.5 hours. The Printer Dock works with or without a computer and works with EASYSHARE digital cameras and is IMAGELINK / PictBridge compatible.

As my two children were starting to be interested in taking part in sports, and as I needed a new camera anyway, I shopped around for what I thought would be most suitable.
This camera certainly came top on the price front and having now used it for a bit I can say that it does take great action shots. The image stablisation is a great plus feature and you would normally have to pay more than I did for a camera with this advantage.
I also found it very easy to use from the beginning and it takes sharp clear pictures.

Overall, I have been pleased with this camera, it was certainly well priced compared to similar cameras. It takes good action shots using the image stabilisation and you end up with really clear pictures. The only downside I have found is that it doesn't perform so well in low light conditions, focus not so good - it would have been a good idea if they could have included an AF assist light maybe. This camera is easy to use, feels good and would be of interest to both learners and those with a bit of experience.

I have already taken quite a few pictures with this camera and have found it to be easy to use, comfortable to handle, it has great lens and zoom and it produces extremely good pics. Action shots are great because of the image stabilisation and flash works pretty well. However, I would suggest still using flash in low light conditions as it seems to need all the light it can get. In a nut shell it is easy to use, produces high quality photos at a good price (shop around for best price).
