Kodak EasyShare Z700 Review
Because the Kodak EasyShare Z700 has Retinar Aspheric all glass 5x optical zoom lens, you can come extremely close to your subject and not lose any crispness of detail. You can get even closer with the 4x advanced digital zoom giving 20x in total.
The colour attained is excellent as this camera has the exclusive Kodak Colour Science Image Processing Chip.
This chip reacts at such high speed that the camera makes its own decisions in dealing with any lighting situations prior to your pressing the button. Data and light source are detected and the necessary adjustments made so that appropriate exposure can be given in order to capture details and accuracy of colour.
To view images, even in bright light, the 4.0cm high-resolution indoor/outdoor display gives easy access. Also, whilst in review mode, images can be scrolled through quickly and magnified up to 8x.
There are a wealth of different modes within this Z700 including some extremely helpful scene modes such as: Sport, Beach, Snow, Children, Fireworks, Party and Night. Some close-up modes are also useful: Flower and Self Portrait together with interesting colour modes including Black/White, Sepia and Color for vibrant colours.
You can let your creative side loose with the vast range of manual and custom controls. Use the Aperture for both wide (f/2.8-5.76) and tele (f/4.9-8.76), you choose the aperture and the camera sets shutter speed and vice versa, if you select shutter speeds the camera will set the aperture.
Auto-focus, flash mode, programme mode and the above are some of the options available to you.
It is also possible for you to take up to 80 minutes continuous video footage with the Z700. With MPEG-4 compression these can be shot at 13fps for VGA (640-480-pixel resolution) or 20fps for QVGA (320 x 240-pixel resolution).
The Kodak EASYSHARE System means that you can share your pictures at the touch of a button, with the on-camera Share button. This button allows you to select images which you can print or send on by e-mail. You can also select your favourite images and save them in the Favorite mode so that they can then be shown on your camera.
The Z700 package includes the KODAK EASYSHARE Software which when combined with EASYSHARE cameras and docks allows for easy transfers.
EASYSHARE optional accessories include Camera Dock Series 3 for instant uploads to your computer and the Printer Dock Series 3 which will print with or without a computer. Both the Camera Dock and the Printer Dock will also charge your battery in less than 3.5 hours.

I was amazed at the quality of colour with the Z700 and the fact that I can take close up shots without them being fuzzy. Have had fun playing with the different scene modes, can't wait for next Firework night!

The Z700 was good value for its kind and a plus for me is that it doesn't have a joystick to fiddle with. It is user friendly and can be used by our whole family without any loss of features.
The only maybe negative comment that I would make would be with regard to the movie function as I thought my movie was a bit stilted. Having said that, it obviously isn't meant to replace a camcorder but it is useful for those opportune moments.

Found the Z700 to be a little bulky, probably will be hard wearing and very easy to use. This camera focuses well and I have managed to produce some nice clear, colourful pictures. The zoom is more effective than I thought it might be but if you intend to shoot a lot of pictures at high zoom them I would suggest using a tripod to avoid blurriness. Also take a couple of spare AA batteries with you.

Am enjoying using the Z700 as it does a lot of the thinking for me but still lets me use my own imagination as well. Good choice of scene modes, easy to view images, flexible zoom range, though it does help if you have a steady hand. Only downside for me is the movie mode, I didn't feel that my video clip was as good as I would have liked it to be. Probably better to buy a camcorder for this.

This camera feels good to use and is reasonably priced. The Z700 has enabled me to produce some good quality, colour prints which I can share with the family. We have just had our first child so everyone wants pictures and by using the EasyShare software with the docks we are able to share them quickly and easily wherever our family live. I would suggest having a supply of AA rechargeable batteries as you can go through these fairly quickly.
