Nikon Coolpix 5700 - UK Digital Camera Review

Nikon Coolpix 5700 Review

A robust digital camera whose case is made from hard wearing magnesium alloy, the Coolpix 5700 can produce prints up to A3 (297 x 420mm) and perhaps beyond without any loss of image quality.

Although this is a compact camera it has an 8x optical zoom lens and 5.0 megapixels with easy to use buttons. It will appeal to enthusiasts and those who like to experience fresh technology.

The 8x Zoom-Nikkor lens has ED glass which lessens inherent faults and makes close up shots clearer and sharper. The lens has an equivalent range of 35-280mm in 35mm format.

Taking outdoor and sports action shots does not present any problem as the Nikkon Coolpix 5700 has a shutter release lag of 70 milliseconds. Therefore, by choosing the maximum aperture, it is possible to have a 1/4000 second shutter speed thus capturing the perfect image.

The electronic viewfinder (EVF) gives better frame coverage and a bright preview for through-the-lens viewing and the RAW image mode improves image quality and gives you the potential to achieve better post-processing results.

Amongst the optional accessories available to the Coolpix 5700 are a variety of speedlights, battery pack, 420mm Telephoto Converter Lens and the 28mm wide angle converter WC-E80.

I've had my coolpix 5700 for almost 4 years and it has proven to be an excellant camera. About 8 months ago the sensor packed up, I looked on the Nikon website and found a page saying faulty parts had been fitted into the camera and Nikon claimed they would repair any faulty cameras free of charge. I returned my camera to the place of purchase, they sent it back to Nikon, who did repair it free of all charges, it is now a good as it ever was. Although inconveniant, the problem was sorted promptly. If other users are having a similar problems, check out the Nikon site.

I bought a Nikon Coolpix 5700 in August 2003. (spent £750 on it) I have used it fairly regularly, and been very careful with it. It has as your last commentator noted given up on me too! So from last comment I presume the sensor has gone too. All I get is a load of fuzzy lines and the camera trying to focus without suceeding. I am so dissappointed. I thought your article said it was robust.

Bought in September 2003 and worked well but took some getting used to after being a Canon user for many years. Not used since Christmas and yesterday it malfunctioned - I think the sensor has gone. Not what I expected from a camera which cost me the best part of £600 and is likely to need another £200 to repair. Don't think I'll be buying a Nikkon again and will stick to Canon.

I bought my Coolpix 5700 second-hand and having now used it for a few months am glad that I did not pay the full price for it as I thought it was overpriced.

It does produce crisp quality images but I understand that it can have problems with the lens gear stripping. I have not myself experienced this problem but have turned off continuous autofocus and high speed zoom as I think this may cause damage to the mechanics.

The 5700 is a good weight, good size and is well constructed. It is easy to hold and fully programmable although I have found that on automatic mode I can take excellent quality photos.

I was already an amateur photographer with some experience when I purchased my Coolpix 5700 and I have not been disappointed with my choice. I was looking for a digital camera that was well-made and small and did quite a bit of research before buying. The detail on my photos is excellent, colour is true to life and it is basically fairly easy to use. However, I have found the flash to be not as good as I would expect and have had to purchase a speedlight. Have not regretted this purchase as it has made a big difference. I think this is a camera very suitable for someone who has already had a bit of experience.

This Coolpix 5700 is a well built, compact, easy to use digital camera. It was given to me some time ago now and I have taken many many shots with it.

It has consistently given me excellent photos but I would say that in video mode it is lacking a little something and the microphone picks up camera noises.

It was fairly expensive when I bought mine but now, with the price having dropped with time, I would say that this would be a very good buy.

Generally, my pictures are of excellent quality, very clear and very detailed but I do find I have trouble when using a white background. Even though I have tried various settings, the white is not a true white. Most of the photographs I take with my Coolpix are stationary, I don't very often try moving shots. So far I have not referred to the manual very often as most choices have been made instinctively but I am sure that if I made a study of it I will be able to do great things! The 5700 is comfortable to use and is a great size.

The Coolpix 5700 was my first digital camera and when I first looked through the manual I thought I had bitten off more than I could chew. Rather than put myself off to start with I decided to put the manual away and just try looking at the camera and playing with all the various features. By using common sense and trial and error, I soon found that I was able to take really good quality pictures.

So don't ever be put off by a complicated looking manual.

Being a Nikon fan, I wanted to upgrade and bought the Coolpix 5700 because of Nikon lens quality. So far I have been very pleased with the camera, even though it might take me a long time to work my way through all the features on offer. I did also purchase the telephoto lens which is taking me a little while to master to its best advantage. Images are good quality, clear and detailed, colour works well, speedy start up, zoom and autofocus excellent. One comment I would make is that the flash could have been better - not strong enough - and I have heard reports that it can stop working.

A friend of mine lent me his Coolpix 5700 to try before I decided which digital camera I wanted.

Not being an expert I initially took everything on automatic and was well pleased with the results I was getting. I thought the pictures had great image quality and I was finding it much easier to use than expected because the displays made sense.

I have taken both indoor and outdoor shots with great success but if I buy this model, which I probably will, I will carry extra batteries with me and buy a speedlight.

Having a magnesium case I am hoping that my Coolpix 5700 will cope with being carried around with me everywhere, I am a bit clumsy sometimes.

I support my local football team and always take my 5700 when going to watch the games. Have taken some mega moving shots, some of which I have sent on to the Club.

Tried doing videos but I think I need a little more practice.

I am sure that if I take time to read the instructions properly I will be an expert in no time.
