Nikon D50 Review
With its range of features, the Nikon D50 can be used by beginners who are entering the world of digital photography and by those who have gained some experience.
If you are more experienced and want to be creative there is a full manual mode but if you would like some help then there are 7 modes that will establish ideal settings for most conditions. These include Portrait, Landscape, Close up, Night, Sports and Auto and the new Child mode which captures skin tones more accurately.
The Nikon D50 also includes an automatic AF assist illuminator which helps to control focus in low light conditions. There is also an autofocus system which can give more control and improve focus tracking, resulting in better images.
It is simple to preview your image by using the large 2" LCD screen which also displays the easy to understand menu.
With a 6.1 megapixel DX CCE image sensor, the D50 can produce very clear, detailed images which can be printed on to any PictBridge compatible printer without connection to a PC.
The D50 is powered by a high energy, rechargeable Lithium-ion battery and comes supplied with a battery charger.

Good camera, good range of accessories available. Image quality good for general day to day use; 6.1 pixels not so good when enlarging. Getting rid of it now and going to the D3!

Why would anyone buy a compact/rangefinder when you can get an SLR as good as this, for this price. It's good because of the macro (down to about 10cm) and the excellent wide-angle standard lens. As everyone says, battery life is amazing - I've taken 600 images on a single trip without charging. A tip: learn to use the manual focus like we old-timers always had to - then when you hit that button the shutter is instant; ideal for any shot where there is movement. With this camera anyone can feel like a professional.
My ratings are perhaps not quite as high as others' because I know that the more expensive SLRs are even better in some ways.

I decided that this was the digital camera for me because I already had some photographic experience and felt the Nikon D50 could take me into the next stage.
The D50 is easy to use, is fast and produces excellent images. We have recently had a baby and I find the rapid fire shooting to be so useful because obviously babies don't do what their told when posing is required.
Also I am very impressed with the length of the battery life because even with rapid shooting and the many photos I have taken it is still OK.
I am very pleased with my decision.

I am amazed at the battery life in this camera, I have taken loads of photos and it is still going strong, best I have had so far. The D50 is simple to use and the menu is easy to navigate. It is also an easy camera to hold, it feels comfortable. Most of my shots so far have been on automatic and I have printed off some great photos. I am very impressed with the detail captured by the lens and with the colour produced.

I like this camera. It was given to me by a friend who has moved on to even better things (his words not mine) and I am enjoying using it. To sum it up - it takes wonderfully detailed pictures, excellent colour, easy to understand, feels good, long battery life and it didn't cost me a penny.
How lucky was I.

Very easy to use, good range of options, excellent image detail and colour, long battery life, helpful menu.
Continuous shooting is good plus when you have a target that won't keep still.
A camera worth investing in.
