Olympus E-500 Review

The 8 megapixels in the Olympus E-500 ensures excellent detailed photographs as they receive a greater exposure latitude using the FFT CCD which has a larger pixel area. The TruePic TURBO image processor also improves quality and shows images in their natural colour.

The E-500 is a light, compact, classically designed D-SLR which is very portable. It also has a Supersonic Wave Filter which automatically removes dust on start-up and whilst changing lenses, thus saving the time normally spent on cleaning sensors.

The controls on the Olympus E-500 are very user friendly. For those who wish to maximise their own creativity there is a full range of manual controls. If, however, assistance is required in setting up a shot, 21 scene modes are available. These are suitable for most settings and there is a new addition covering kids in action. The black and white mode also offers the facility to add some colour filters.

The Olympus E-500 can be taken anywhere and the coated viewfinder can operate in strong sunlight and at different angles. Images can be viewed on the large 6.4cm HyperCrystal LCD.

It has a built in pop up flash when there is not enough natural light available.

I have two other DSLRs, a Nikon D50 and a Fujifilm S2 pro. In comparison the E500 is a very simple to use camera. I prefer the more "advanced" feel of the other 2 DSLRs, however. The E500, although having more features than the D50 feels much more like a beginers camera than the D50 both in its handling, scene presets and limited range of accessories available. The S2 pro is much more an advanced enthusiasts camera. In summary the E500 is a very good, portable DSLR producing good images and is a great first DSLR that allows you to build on your experience.

I thought this digital camera was very good value for money as well as being easy to use and to handle. The photo quality is extremely good and shows a lot of detail whilst being able to use a 2.5" LCD is a big advantage. So far it has performed to expectation, I am not disappointed.

My Olympus E-500 is very easy to use and I got two lenses at, what I believe, was a great price.

I have take some really quality photos and I do believe that the dust reduction facility has greatly contributed to this. My photos are very clear and the colour is pretty well true to life. This camera is also very easy to carry around with you so its great to be able to take that unusual photo.

Bought this as an upgrade to my previous camera and have had very good results so far. Two lenses was a bonus with this camera and the dust reduction is a great addition.
