Olympus FE-340 Review

The Olympus FE-340 is an ultra slim camera with a metal body offering 8 megapixels, 5x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom. This is a very versatile camera where clear, detailed shots are easily achievable.

Technology within the Olympus FE-340 includes; Face Detection where correct focus and exposure is given to faces detected with your picture; Digital image stabilisation which compensates for blurring; BrightCapture which allows successful shooting in low light conditions and the TruePicIII image processor which produces a high image quality as image handling is faster. The Olympus FE-340 also has a Super Macro mode for taking shots as close as 3cm without loss of quality.

The Olympus FE-340 has an internal memory and can use xD-Picture Card, panoramic shots are possible using the Olympus xD-Picture Card. Still images are recorded as DCF/Exif 2.21/PIM III/DPS/DPOF and movies with sound as AVI Motion JPEG, WAV. Images can be viewed using the 6.9cm/2.7" LCD with editing options of funny face, face focus, trimming, resize and red-eye reduction for still images and index for movies. Playback functions include; slide show, rotation, index, zoom and favourite for still and frame by frame, reverse and forward for movies.

White Balance gives auto, tungsten, fluorescents, sunlight, overcast and auto, ISO equivalents are 64 - 1600 in auto and 64/100/200/400/800/1600/3200 in manual. The internal flash modes are auto, red-eye reduction, fill-in and off. The Olympus FE-340 also has a choice of 18 scene modes where settings have been preselected to suit certain situations and these include auto, portrait and landscape, night, sports, indoor, sunset, candle, fireworks and documents.

The Olympus FE-340 measures approximately 96.9 x 57.5 x 22.6 mm and weighs 116g without battery and card.
