Olympus µ [mju:] 1000 Review

The Olympus µ [mju:] 1000 is a stylish camera in a waterproof, stainless steel, silver finished body that retains the Olympus high quality technical achievements.

Having 10 megapixels, 3x optical and 5x digital zoom and a TTL, iESP auto focus system (with spot, standard, macro and super macro modes), the Olympus µ [mju:] 1000 produces excellent quality and detailed images.

The inclusion of BrightCapture technology allows preview of pictures on the monitor which can then be shot without the use of flash, it also can be used in movie mode with sound at 30fps (640x480).

The µ [mju:] 1000 has a Digital Image Stabilisation Edit which helps compensate for blurring due to camera shake together with a Perfect Fix Button to compensate for image blur, red-eye and backlight. The internal flash modes are auto, fill in, off and red-eye reduction with sensitivity automatically selected using auto mode and offering manual selections of 64/100/200/400/800/1600/3200/6400. As light sensitivity can be increased to 6400, the Olympus [mju:] 1000 is well suited to low light photography as images can be brightened without the use of flash. White Balance has iESP 11, sunlight, overcast, tungsten and fluorescent x 3.

There are 24 scene modes available with the Olympus µ [mju:] 1000 including; portrait, landscape, night, sports, candle, self- portrait, sunset, museum, fireworks, beach & snow, indoor and cuisine where selections have already been preset to suit particular conditions.

Images can be viewed on the 2.5" LCD monitor and various editing features are available including: black & white, sepia, trimming, attaching frame/title/calendar/layout and correction of brightness and saturation. Still images can be viewed as calendar, album, slide show, rotation, zoom and movies as frame by frame, fast forward, reverse and voice playback. The µ (mju:) 1000 has an internal memory of 28.5 MB and still images are recorded as JPEG, EXIF, PIM, DPS, DPOF with movies on QuickTime Motion JPEG with sound up to card capacity. Movie recording formats are - 640x480 at 30fps, 320x240 at 30fps and 160x120 at 15fps.
