Olympus µ [mju:] 720 SW Review

The Olympus µ [mju:] 720 SW is available in a choice of Steel Silver, Polar Blue or Dusky Pink and is both waterproof to a depth of 3m and shockproof from a height of 1.5m.

With 7.1 megapixels, 3x digital and 5x optical zoom, the Olympus µ [mju:] 720 SW produces great detail and with the added advantage of the exclusive TruePic TURBO image processor it can also offer faster operation and colours that are true to life. The µ [mju:] 720 SW also features BrightCapture technology which means that images can be viewed on the LCD and then shot in poor light conditions without using flash.

The Olympus [mju:] 720 SW has an internal memory of 19.1 MB and can take xD-Picture Card from 16 to 1GB. Still images are stored as JPEG, Exif 2.2 support, DPS, Print Image Matching III support, DPOF support with video on QuickTime Motion JPEG with sound. Images can be viewed on the 2.5" TFT LCD monitor.

For ease of shooting the Olympus µ [mju:] 720 SW has 24 scene modes including portrait, landscape, night, sport, candle, sunset, fireworks, beach & snow, and underwater (x4). The Digital Image Stabilisation mode will automatically increase sensitivity to avoid blurring. Auto ISO equivalent ranges from 64 - 400 (except when using the Available Light Portrait and Candle scene modes when it is 2500) with manual at 64/100/200/400/800/1600. White Balance has full-auto TTL ESP and pre-sets of tungsten, overcast, sunlight and 3x fluorescents.

The µ [mju:] 720 SW has a built-in flash including auto, fill-in, off and red-eye reduction modes and is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery LI-42B with an AC adaptor available as an optional extra.

In motion picture mode the Olympus µ [mju:] 720SW shoots up to memory card capacity in SHQ (640x480) at 15fps, in HQ (320x240) at 15fps and in SQ (160x120) at 15fps.

The Olympus µ [mju:] 720SW has PictBridge support which allows direct printing with compatible printers.

I bought this camera for my skiing trip, had not had a practise before I went away but it has produced some excellent prints.

Easy to use, would certainly recommend it.

Can't believe how well it covers for camera shake. My hands are not too steady always but with this camera I have managed great results every time. I also dropped it but, 'as it says on the box', did not suffer any damage.

I have experimented with underwater shots and have been impressed with these pictures as much as I have been with normal shots.

A good allrounder, great photo quality, easy to use, easy to carry.
