Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 - UK Digital SLR Camera Review

Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 Review

This is Panasonics first digital SLR camera that has interchangeable lens. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 has the New LEICA D Vario-Elmarit lens that has an aperture ring, focus ring and zoom ring to allow easy aperture settings to be made which then produces excellent results in both portrait and landscape shots. It also offers excellent macro shooting, the Leica D zoom lens can cover a variety of situations very successfully (close-up, portrait, landscape). The Panasonic L1 also has 14x digital zoom.

The Lumix DMC-L1 has 7.5 megapixels and has a Mega Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) which compensates for blurriness in pictures normally caused by shaky hands. The gyrosensors and Venus Engine Plus LSI built in to the lens can detect camera movement and then compensate for it.

The OIS also has two correcting modes; one which compensates for movement and the other which stabilises an image at the precise time the shutter button is pressed.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 has an ISO sensitivity range from 100 - 1600 and images can be viewed on the large 2.5" Live View LCD. Images are stored on SD card.

I am not a professional but would say that I am an experienced amateur and I was looking for a good quality digital camera. Some of the cameras I researched were great but too expensive and then I found this one which met all my needs and, although not cheap, seemed to be good value for money.

I have been really pleased with its performance to date. Exposure is excellent in all modes and I particularly like this camera because I can have control over the settings. The built in flash is good but I find that I can obtain more power and range by using an external flash.

Would recommend for those who are more experienced and want to make their own decisions.

This is a very flexible camera with excellent optics and manual controls. The build quality is good and I found the additional grip to be very useful. It powers up quickly and it is easy to frame your shot on the LCD as it also gives you information such as shutter speed, aperture, quality etc. It would be best used by someone who has previous experience and who is not into action photography.
