Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 Review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 retains the f/2.8 28mm wide angle LEICA DC lens, 4 x optical zoom and MEGA OIS from its predecessor but has the addition of 10.2 megapixel CCD. It also features a joystick which gives full manual control and allows you to be the creative one.

The MEGA OIS system uses superior lens technology to compensate for blurriness caused by hand shake but, in addition to this, the Panasonic LX2 also has Intelligent ISO Control within the LSI Venus Engine III which compensates for any movement made by the subject. This is done by the adjustment of the ISO setting and shutter speed with the resulting clear, clean images.

The Lumix DMC-LX2 has an ISO range of auto / I.ISO / 100 / 200 / 400 / 800 / 1600 (high sensitivity of 3200) with White balance as auto / daylight / shade / flash / halogen / cloudy / white set. There is a built in flash with settings of auto, auto/red eye reduction, slow syncro/red eye reduction, forced On/Off. Focus range is AF/ Macro / MF switchable, Continuous AF: On/Off with AF Assist Lamp.

Scene modes where settings are preset are available with the LX2 and include portrait, night, party, candle, fireworks, beach and snow with Colour Modes of cool, warm, sepia and black and white.

Images can be viewed on the 2.8" TFT LCD Display that has approximately 100% coverage and stored on SD or SDHC Memory Card and MultiMediaCard. Still images are JPEG and motion images are QuickTime Motion JPEG RAW.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 offers a choice of playback modes such as 9/25 thumbnail display, zoom, rotation, slide show and calendar.

A Li-ion battery pack powers the DMC-LX2 and has a battery life of approximately 300 pictures. An AC adaptor is available as an optional accessory.

Software included with the Panasonic LX2 includes LUMIX simple viewer, SILKPIX developer studio, ArcSoft and Adobe Reader. It is also PictBridge compatible.
