Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ6 Review
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ6 has 7.2 megapixel CCD and a Lumix DC VARIO lens with 6x optical zoom. This 6x zoom ratio can be increased to 9x in 3MG mode due to the Extra Optical Zoom function within the camera. Also when the central portion of the CCD is used this zoom can be extended to 36x when combined with the 4x digital zoom. The LUMIX lens is made up of 8 elements in 7 groups (2 aspherical lenses/3 aspherical surfaces).
Even though compact, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ6 houses an Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) which counteracts blurring of shots when shaky hands are operating the camera. This is done by the shifting of the OIS lens unit to ensure that the optical axis is aligned correctly with the CCD. The Panasonic LZ6 has real-time histrogram and an extremely fast release time lag (0.005 seconds) which means that those spontaneous moments are not lost and the consecutive shooting function will operate up to the capacity of available memory.
Various scene modes have been programmed into the Panasonic Lumix LZ6 including; night, portrait, party, fireworks, beach, snow, sunset, high sensitivity and sports. ISO sensitivity is auto/100/200/400/800/1250 and high sensitivity mode of 3200. White Balance comes as auto, shade, daylight, cloudy, halogen and white set and there is a built in flash system offering auto, forced on/off and auto/red-eye reduction. The high performance Venus Engine III can record using ISO 1250 at full resolution resulting in improved picture and noise reduction.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ6 has a built-in memory and operates with SD/SDHC and MultiMedia memory cards. Images are stored as JPEG (Exif 2.21), DPOF and QuickTime Motion JPEG and can be viewed on the 2" TFT LCD display that has approximately 100% field of view. Display choices include; 25-thumbnail, 9-thumbnail, zoomed, image rotation, calendar, slide show, favourites and the ability to resize.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ6 links with DC input, AV output (NTSC/PAL) and USB and is PictBridge compatible. The camera is powered using AA batteries and the oxyride batteries supplied with the camera will give an approximate life of 260 pictures, AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries can also be used and these are available as an optional extra. Standard accessories include CD-ROM, USB connection cable, video cable and a strap and included software consists of LUMIX simple viewer, PhotofunStudio-viewer-ArcSoft and USB driver.
The dimensions of the Lumix DMC-LZ6 are: 98.5 x 62.3 x 33.1mm and it weighs approximately 180g, or 226g with battery and SD memory card.
