Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 Review
The smallness of size of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 has been achieved by its having an integrated retractable lens system with folded optics technology.
The Lumix DMC-TZ1 has 5 megapixel CCD, 10x optical zoom LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens and 4x digital zoom and has won the TIPA 2006 Award for the best superzoom digital camera.
This camera is powered by a Li-ion battery pack which, as a result of having the Venus Engine III, allows 250 pictures to be taken on a single charge whilst only using up 80% of the power given by the previous engine model (II).
The Panasonic DMC-TZ1 incorporates the MEGA O.I.S. which minimises the blurring caused by shaky hands. This, in addition to the High ISO Sensitivy mode of 800/1600, gives the best opportunity to take good quality prints.
Images can be viewed on the 2.5" LCD and played back in various styles such as thumbnail, rotation, slide show and calendar display.
The focusing area is wide or tele in normal or macro/simple/motion with an AF Assist Lamp and ISO sensitivity can be to auto/80/100/200/400 as well as high. White balance covers auto, cloudy, halogen, daylight and white set.
Various scene modes can be selected with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 including; portrait, scenery, self-portrait, candle, fireworks, snow and party. Colour effect modes are available in warm, black and white, cool and sepia.
Unmlimited consecutive shooting comes with the Lumix DMC-TZ1 with a burst shooting mode of 3 or 2fps full resolution, 5 images in standard and 3 images in fine mode.
The DMC-TZ1 has built in flash which can be used in auto, auto with red-eye reduction, slow sync with red-eye reduction and forced on/off.
Images can be recorded on the built in memory, SD memory card or MultiMedia card and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 is PictBridge compatible.

I waited years before buying a digital camera because none of them were offering what I required, until the TZ1 came along. Its so simple to use I'm surprised they even put a simple mode on it. The optical zoom is just amazing, if I can't quite see to make something out at distance I'll just take a photo and see it on the huge screen. Having since bought mine my dad and sister have also purchsed one each, disgarding their previous camera's. Can't wait until the TZ3 comes out tho, so I can upgrade to 7.2Mpix

I was told by the camera salesman that once I had used a Lumix I wouldn't want to use anything else and he was right.
This is a good looking camera which is easy to take around with you, it has excellent zoom and the image stabiliser gives you a big advantage.
LCD size is generous and so far I have printed off my best digital pictures.

Having been looking for a compact camera which had high optical zoom, I was grateful to a friend of mine who suggested I take a look at the TZ1. Zoom is excellent and with the image stabiliser I can achieve high quality prints. Although maybe falling short on the manual side, this camera offers a wide enough range to keep me happy.
