Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 Review
A multitude of technological features are contained in the slim and stylish body of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 including 7.2 megapixel CCD and 10x optical zoom.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 can easily capture a large group of people, extensive landscapes and majestic buildings due to the 28mm wide-angle Leica DC lens. Used in conjunction with the 7.2 megapixel, 10x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom excellent quality pictures are achieved.
The zoom ratio can also be extended to 15x in 3 megapixel resolution using the Extra Optical Zoom facility which means that in total 60x zoom is possible.
Inclusion of Mega O.I.S. (prevents blurring from shaky hands), Intelligent ISO (compensates for motion blur) and the Venus Engine III (quality image processing) means that the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 is a camera of the highest calibre.
The Panasonic DMC-TZ3 ISO sensitivity is equivalent to; auto/100/200/400/800/1250/3200 (high sensitivity), White Balance has options of auto/daylight/cloudy/shade/halogen/white set, white balance adjustment. The built-in flash offers auto, auto/red-eye reduction, forced on, slow sync/red-eye, forced off.
A Li-ion battery pack powers the Lumix DMC-TZ3 and battery life is estimated at 270 pictures (CIPA Standard). Brilliant. This camera does everything the average snapper could wish for. Fantastic wide panoramas to amazing high power zooms and they all come out very sharp and detailed. What other camera offers 28mm wide and 10 x zoom in a pocketable camera, uuggghh that will be no one then.
I do wish people would not keep ranting on about more mega- pixels 7.2 is plenty, the results prove that. Panasonic definitely do know what their doing. The Intelligent ISO is a masterpiece for capturing fast moving objects like children etc. The many scene modes especially the night ones work very well too. Buy it, but please delve into the modes and play around, you will be amazed. As for quality of build you only have to pick it up to realize this is a quality camera with an amazing glass lens.

This is or was a dreadful camera. Its gone back now for a refund and I have bought a ricoh R7 which knocks spots off it.
I complained to panasonic uk about the appalling video recorder and the unbelievable noisy audio but received no reply so back it went. Had an old sony early compact which was better .The low light photos were also trashy and noisy. Its also quite big and v. expensive relatively.
sorry but I buy a new compact almost evry year and have a cupbaord full of old ones which were good for their time

The main features that set this camera apart from it's competitors are; 10x zoom with excellent image stabilization meaning zoomed images aren't blurred. Built in wide-angle lens also fantastic. Wide screen 16:9 image format option for full display on wide-screen TV's (resolution drops to 6M pixel in wide mode). Compact, robust metal construction. Large LCD display. Downsides; with LCD on bright, battery really only lasts 1-2 days with "holiday" usage, so you will need 2/3 batteries. Way too many scene modes, and the "select" dial is too loose. Can't zoom or re-focus in Video mode. Also, video stored in apple quicktime format, so I have to convert to MPEG/DivX format on PC. Could do with a viewfinder. Overall, exceptional all-round performance in a pocket-sized package.

I bought the TZ3 at the beginning of a 5 week holliday in Europe and took more than 1400 pictures with it since 10 December. It is a great travel companion, fits easy a front pocket of my denims and is ready for a foto under almost any conditions with the flick of a switch.
It is not a camera for a control freak but does almost anything well if you select the right function. Its greatest assest is the 28 mm wide angle lens while the 280 mm telephoto capability is nothing to sneeze at. Pro's are the big clear viewfinder, cheap SD card compatibility and rugged (it feels like it) steel body. Battery life is very good and with the power save setting on will last easily for 2 days with lots of use. As an ex photo journalist it is just amazing to carry a camera in your pocket with the same capabilities as as a whole bag full of equipment not so long ago.
Just a word of warning Panasonic's world wide warrenty is not so world wide. I bought the camera at a reputable big store (Saturn Electro) in Berlin and was assured that the camera carries a world wide warranty. Not so - Panasonic in South Africa would not repair the faulty focus assist lamp under warranty as the camera was bought in a diffirent zone!
I still reccomend the camera. It is offers great value with its excellent lens and good electronics and I sure you won't find a better travel companion at any price. The TZ3 is state of the art!

I didn't want to travel with my dSLR and lenses, so I decided to buy a compact p&s camera. And because I will be on the go in different enviroments, I wanted something with a wide range of features with good auto capability.
You usually can't go wrong with a decent brand p&s camera these days.
The reason I went for the Lumix was because of the 16:9 ascpect ratio and Leica lens.
However, I would have gone for a camera in the Canon Ixus range had I been looking for a camera with which to change settings manually.
Overall, I'm very please with this camera; Panasonic quality (made in Japan), X10 zoom, 3" screen, nice to hold and overall very user friendly.

Oh Yes! What more can I say, the Panasonic TZ3 is the best compact camera I have ever used. Indoor flash photo's - perfect, macro - incredible, outdoor - spot on. I am so happy with this little bundle of joy. Superb optical zoom 10x, large LCD display which is easy to see in bright sun light. Battery lasts forever. Video is even worth a mention - brilliant. It fits your hand like a glove, even my husband (who has big hands) can handle it with no problems at all. It never leaves my side and has brought photography back into my life. In my opinion Panasonic at its best.

Lots of really well thought out and intuitive features. This is my first digital camera, although I have used many others I am particularly glad that I bought this one. It is so easy to use, my mum could even operate it - and she still struggles to set her video. The simplicty of operation does not mean this is not a sophisticated camera. It has plenty of functions and settings for just about everything you would want to do with it. The screen is superb and the lens is really excellent. This is a great camera for the money and is something that I am really enjoying to own, and judging by the solid build quality it will be something that I will continue to use for a very long time.

Why have a bulky pocket camera for 28mm wide angle when you can get slim cameras with 28mm? You buy bulky to get the long zoom, and Panasonic really goofed on this choice. Casio had a 10 mp slim pocket camera almost a year before the TZ3, but Panasonic could only do 7 mp on the TZ3. Another bad decision in my opinion. Movies are OK for the tiny screen, not so good on a 1024 x 768 laptop.
It'a still one of the best if not the best of the fat pocket cameras, but it could have been a world beater if they chose 350 mm zoom and 10 mp CCD.

The TZ3 was really easy to get used to and the controls fall naturally to hand, the flash as with most compacts is too close to the lens and red-eye can be an unwanted 'feature'. The 10x zoom is impresive especially as it starts with a really good wide-angle. My one dissapointment has been the close focussing - even using the macro dial setting I failed to get the camera to correctly focus on a flower head. However by contast the image stabilisation is a really good feature, especially when shooting at max zoom in a high wind (Mode 2)! It won't replace my Canon EOS 350D for formal shooting but I will have it with me the rest of the time. Overal verdict - nice camera!

Had the TZ3 for a week now and feel its a great small camera with many features. Had a Cannon sd200 so getting familiar with this one is trying. But the 10x zoom is the best I've seen yet. It does drain battery pretty quick unless you keep the LCD off. Its extremely bright and clear. When you xfer photos to computer they are not as brilliant as seen on LCD. Although they are still very good. Its compact size makes it easy to carry in shirt pocket.
