I bought this mainly to use with my old Pentax lenses and with my Pentax adaptors for my telescopes. I was very pleased to find that my old SIGMA 28-200 aspherical superzoom lens worked perfectly. (though obviously now a 56-300 equivalent)

The camera is solidly built and has a nice range of features. The instructions are well-written and the functions are very logical and intuitive. Nice features include manual focus, depth of field preview mode, takes AA batteries (and NiMH), B setting, SD card, a useful range of auto settings plus P Tv Av M settings, diopter adjustment of viewfinder. The viewfinder is a return to the good old days of SLR. A nice big view with the photo settings visible underneath.

Autofocus is very good and hard to fool, you get a LED style red dot where the camera is focussing in on. I even tried to fool it by taking photos of a bird through a cage and it was possible to focus through OK with a bit of care. The autofocus struggled a bit with diffuse subjects like clouds but it did focus OK on the daylight Moon and also a Buzzard at 2000ft I have only tested this quickly in default 6M high quality JPG (I only bought it today) on rather a dull afternoon, but the results are good. Sharp images but with a slight green cast perhaps. I am used to using a Fuji finepix S5000 which tends to over saturate the colours slightly (as I have it in 'Fugichrome' mode) so its probably just a question of getting used to it. The colours seem pretty accurate. No SD card is supplied which isnt a bad idea as the ones supplied are often pathetically small.I bought a 512MB SD card which will hold 177 high qual Jpegs. My advice is to shop around for SD cards as there is an!

astronomical 5 fold difference between the cheapest and most expensive supplier! The mirror makes a very big clunk on exposure but again this may be due to a few years of not using SLR's! There is also a 'mirror up' function to overcome any shake for long exposures - brilliant! An IR remote control is available which is a handy feature. The lens supplied a 18-55 has a 52mm lens cap, slightly different from the old 49mm of my older Pentax lenses so yet another UV filter to be purchased! I took a photo of a tree against a light background and there was no problem with the finer features being over pixelated due to excessive sharpening as is the case with some cameras. The results I have only viewed on screen so far, but this is usually a more stringent test due to the large enlargement I used. I also had a quick go at IR Photography using a Hoya(25A) filter and I am pleased to report the IR sensitivity is good, opening up a whole new avenue of photography. I will report ba!

ck on the astronomical uses and bright light performance once I have had chance to use it. So far I'm very pleased with this camera and it also means my old lenses don't end up having to be sold for 50p on Ebay!
