Pentax Optio A20 Review

The Pentax Optio A20 is a lightweight, well-designed digital compact camera with many features and three anti-shake functions including SR (Shake Reduction).

With 10 megapixels and high performance 3x optical zoom lens, it will deliver high quality prints which can be stored on the 22MB built-in memory or on SD or SDHC memory cards.

The Pentax Optio A20 has a built-in auto flash with flash-on, flash-off, soft flash and red-eye reduction modes. ISO equivalents are in auto and manual (64/100/200/400) and White Balance modes include auto, manual, daylight, shade, fluorescent and tungsten.

Still images are stored as JPEG (Exif 2.2), DCF, DPOF, PRINT Image Matching III and movies as AVI (MPEG-4 format, DivX) at 30fps with sound and including Movie anti-shake. Images can be viewed on the 2.5" TFT colour, low reflective LCD which has an approximate field of view of 100%.

Focus ranges for both stills and movies are in autofocus with settings of normal, macro and supermacro. Still normal is 0.35m to infinity, Macro is 0.12m to 0.4m and Supermacro is 0.06m to 0.15m. Movie normal is 0.12m to infinity, Macro is 0.12m to 0.4m and Supermacro is 0.06m to 0.15m all at full wide-angle setting.

The Pentax A20 has a choice of preset scene modes where settings have been selected to suit certain situations and these include; auto picture, night, movie, landscape, portrait, kids, sport, surf and snow, manual and food. The Optio A20 also has Face Recognition AE & AF to assist in the taking of portraits.

A rechargeable D-L18 lithium-ion battery powers the Pentax Optio A20 and an AC adaptor is available as an optional extra, it is PAL, NTSC and PictBridge compatible.
