Samsung GX-1L Review

The Samsung GX-1L has 6 megapixels and a stainless steel chassis which makes it lightweight but at the same time hardwearing. Although lightweight the specially finished grip incorporated in its design adds stability to picture taking.

The Schneider-Kreuznach lens produce excellent images because, as they are a highly refractive lens, colour is enhanced and distortion is eliminated. This model comes with the 18-5 mm lens and the 50-200mm is available as an optional accessory.

The Samsung GX-1L also has an automatic sensitivity with ISO range from 200 to 3200, this highest setting allows for clear images even when taken in a dark situation.

The GX-1L has a generous 2.5" TFT LCD which allows easy viewing of images and easy navigation of the menu giving you control over settings. There is also a separate LCD on the top of the camera which shows information on the various operations such as focus, shutter speed, white balance and status of battery life.

The Pentamirror viewfinder on the GX-1L gives approximately a 96% coverage rate which means that what you see is what you capture on your picture.

There is a choice from seven modes on the Samsung GX-1L which include landscape, portrait, macro, moving and standard. In automatic mode the camera will adjust the various settings in order to capture your image in the best way and all these modes are shown on a separate dial.

The GX-1L allows for continuous shooting at 2.8 pictures per second and offers shutter speeds from 30 seconds to 1/4000 seconds giving a good range of choices to suit specific situations.

There is a built in flash which gives automatic pop-up in dim light together with red-eye reduction.

Images can be dowloaded onto a computer and the Samsung GX-1L is PictBridge compatible, simply press the button and print.

Being an enthusiastic amateur I wanted to experience using a digital SLR and a colleague at work suggested that I investigate buying a Samsung as these generally gave good value for money.

I decided on the GX-1L and have not yet had any reason to doubt my decision. It is both easy and enjoyable to use and I end up with great pictures

Great camera, good value and sits well in my hand. Having had some photographic experience I found that I could easily begin to use this straight away without having to read the manual. The menu is straightforward and controls are simple to use. I now have some high quality pictures some of which I have enlarged to 8" x 10" without any loss of detail. Would certainly recommend

Didn't know what make to go for in a camera and ended up with Samsung as previous buys of other items had been successful.

I felt it was better value for me than say Nikon or Canon as it offered the range that I am comfortable with. I am enjoying using it as it is so easy to carry around and the various controls are self-explanatory. I now also have a small collection of quality photos.
