Samsung GX-1S Review

The Samsung GX-1S is a light, compact, 6 megapixel camera which is a digital SLR. It incorporates up to the minute optical and digital technology to produce high quality photographs.

It has a stainless steel body which is robust and this, together with it being so light, makes it very convenient to carry around. It also has a specially finish grip which gives stabilisation to this slim camera.

The Samsung GX-1S has a Pentaprism viewfinder thus ensuring a large, clear view with picture coverage of approximately 95%. Images can be viewed clearly on the 2.5" TFT LCD and the menu can be easily navigated on the same screen. This enables you to select various settings such as; resolution, ISO, white balance, drive mode and strobopscope.

There is another LCD on the top of the GX-1S which shows details of camera operations including flash operation, focus, shutter speed and battery capacity left.

The Samsung GX-1S has D-XENON 18-55mm lens with 50-200mm lens available as an optional accessory, and is equipped with an 11-point stadimeter high-precision AF feature bringing flexibility to the selection of focus. It also includes a 16-split photometry system in order to detect the best exposure for each differing situation.

On the top of the Samsung GX-1S is a mode dial which has seven modes including macro, moving, standard, portrait and landscape and the AUTO SCN mode for automatic adjustment. Shutter speeds are available from 30 seconds to 1/4000 seconds expanding the range of techniques available.

The GX-1S has a built in flash which features pop-up in dim lighting conditions and red-eye reduction. White balance can be set at automatic or manual and because image colour and tone can also be adjusted, colours can be altered.

Continuous shooting at 2.8 pictures per second will cover the majority of situations and the GX-1S has an automatic sensitivity feature which gives ISO 200/400/800/1600 and 3200. ISO 3200 enabling clear indoor pictures to be taken in dark conditions.

Images can be downloaded to a PC or the GX-1S can be connected to any PictBridge compatible photo printer, press the button and print.
