Samsung NV7 OPS - UK Digital Camera Review

Samsung NV7 OPS Review

The Samsung NV7 OPS has many excellent features including 7.2 megapixels, 7x optical zoom, ASR and OPS in a compact and stylish body.

The Samsung NV7 OPS offers double anti-shake protection which is generally caused by the shaking of the hand, zooming or low light conditions.

ASR (Advanced Shake Reduction) retains image clarity and colour when using flash and makes it possible for pictures to be taken in low light without flash. OPS (Optical Picture Stabilisation) uses an Image Sensor Shift system which counteracts lens movement and eliminates even the smallest shake.

ISO equivalents with the Samsung NV7 OPS range from auto/100/200/400/800 to 1000. This high sensitivity of 1000 allows clear indoor pictures to be taken in the dark without blurring and the auto mode will automatically adjust sensitivity according to prevailing conditions. White Balance has auto, cloudy, daylight, fluorescent and incandescent choices.

Images are stored on SD memory card and can be viewed on the 2.5" LCD panel. There is an upgraded version of the photo album which allows you direct access to the album where pictures are stored by date for simple access. The Samsung NV7 OPS also has the Smart Touch user interface, making it easy to operate.

The Samsung NV7 OPS shoots movies as MPEG-4 VGA (640 x 480) at 30fps and TVD (720 x 480) at 20fps and these can be edited on the camera itself.

To assist in the choice of settings to suit particular situations, the Samsung NV7 OPS offers 11 preset modes which include; landscape, portrait, beach and snow, fireworks, night, children, dawn, sunset together with text recognition.

The NV7 OPS is powered by a lithium battery which can be recharged in a number of ways including; using a cradle, a 24 pin USB cable and detachable cable.

Sexy or what! A great looking camera. Packed full of features and shooting modes. I've not had it long so can't review it fully but what I have come across so far is excellent. For what is fundamentally a compact digital camera is covers most needs of the advanced amatuer. The optical zoom is great but quality reduces slightly in the subsequent digital range. The lens is bulkier than most compacts but if you're used to carrying an SLR and a bag of lenses, this is nothing in comparison. And it is so well engineered with a smooth operation. I can't comment on battery life as I haven't taken too much yet and you'll need a memory card. A fast saving one is best.

It has pretty much every funtion you could want. Three metering modes; preset 'scene' modes; P/A/S/M modes; continuous shot modes although the 7.5 fps is only at 1mgp. A neat pop up flash with multi-options.

The editing facilities ont he camera are great - no need for a computer if you want simple editing features and you can even see what your pictures would be like in B+W; Sepia; RGB tones and polarised.

'Super-macro' is amazing giving an equivelent 35mm negative ratio of 1:1 ....and I do like my close-up nature shots. There is so much to learn and some features aren't designed to work in all modes, so getting used to it takes time. The menu buttons are neat although could be difficult for people with large fingers. My only criticism would be that with such a large lens, they could have designed a larger grip for the fingers to wrap round. Not because it's heavy - but just to feel more secure in the hand. That said, I wouldn't have any other compact digital camera. It looks great; it's well engineered and feels nice. And it takes pictures too! What more do you want?

PS: I may not be able to mention where I got mine but you won't fail to get a great deal on the net. If you're unsure about it, Go to a high street shop, pick it up, play with it, stroke the buttons, test the lens movement and then Shop around for some great internet package deals. I got Camera, Samsung case and a 512mb memory card for £265 + £8 post/packing.... delivered in 2 days.

Not had this camera long so this will be a short, immediate reaction review. However, I feel as though I have owned it for ages as it is so intuitive to use.

Pictures so far are of excellent quality and I am appreciating the 7x optical zoom.
