Samsung NV8 Review

The Samsung NV8 is simply elegant in its design whilst incorporating the latest technology. It has 8.1 megapixel CCD, 3x optical zoom and high quality Schneider-KREUZNACH lenses that deliver clear images every time by offering even resolution from centre to edge. The Samsung NV8 also features Smart Touch which gives easy access to menu functions.

Technology includes ACB (auto contrast balance) function which ensures a correctly exposed image by compensating for difficult lighting conditions.

Fast ASR (advanced shake reduction) prevents deterioration sometimes caused by using flash and can even produce clearer pictures in low light conditions without the use of flash. Face Recognition AF and AE automatically detects any faces within your shot and ensures that focus and brightness are adjusted accordingly, Face Recognition can also detect and remove red-eye.

TV quality MPEG-4 movies with sound can be recorded as AVI (MPEG-4) with WAV and still images as JPEG (DCF), Exif 2.21, DPOF. The Samsung NV8 has an internal memory of 20MB and uses SD/SDHC/MMC Plus cards. Images can be viewed on the 2.5" colour TFT LCD and played as single image, thumbnail, movie clip and slideshow; editing offers trimming, resizing, rotation and effect. Effects are normal, black & white, sepia, red, green, blue, negative, custom, composite, photo frame and GIF animation.

ISO sensitivity equivalents in the Samsung NV8 are auto/100/200/400/800/1600/3200, White Balance has auto, daylight, cloudy, tungsten, custom and fluorescents and flash modes are auto, auto + red-eye reduction, fill in flash, slow sync, flash off and red-eye fix. Red-eye fix automatically eliminates red-eye from your photos and you can remove red-eye during image playback. Special scenes are included such as night, children, landscape, dawn, sunset, beach & snow and fireworks where optimum settings have been preselected for you.

The Samsung NV8 uses a 3.7V rechargeable Li-ion battery (SLB-0837(B)).

I think its a brilliant camera, though I am having difficulties with charging the battery. The only way it is chargable is if the USB port on my laptop is compatable with the USB wire, which is something that I don't understand. I just think a battery in a good camera like this should be easy to charge without the excess complications!!

very well built (aluminium) , stunning features and an fully manual exposuremode.

When i make a video, the sound stops working when i use the zoom button. The camera was sent to a service center in the netherlands, and they could not fix the problem. Nor they send a replacement camera, so I believe this is a bug in the software for which there's no software update available at the moment.

It is awesome peice for its price range with an excellent picture quality, well it diminshes when we take long shoots in a bright background. Night mode shooting is the best i have ever seen.
