Samsung Pro815 - UK Digital Camera Review

Samsung Pro815 Review

With its range of flexible and creative features incorporated into a well built, well designed body, the Samsung Pro815 is suitable for all users whilst still offering the more adventurous photographer full manual control.

The high end Samsung Pro815 has 8 megapixels, 15x optical and 4x digital zoom. The optical zoom has a focal length of 28-42mm which means that the one lens can deal with wide angle and telephoto shots. The Schneider-Kreuznach lens produces precise, true to life pictures as each lens surface is multi-coated.

The Samsung Pro815 is powered by a large capacity 7.4V, 1900mAH lithium-ion battery which on a full charge can take up to 450 shots. It is compatible with Compact Flash cards up to 4Gb and records in RAW, TIFF and JPEG. The Pro815 has a fast response time of a 1 second startup, a 1.3 second shot-to-shot speed and an ultra high speed continuous shooting of 10 x 1megapixel sized images per second allowing subjects to be shot at high speed.

Images can be viewed on the large bright 3.5" rear TFT LCD or the 1.44" wide colour top LCD. The large LCD with its wide viewing angle means that others can view at the same time and the top LCD enables you to shoot from waist level. The 1.44" LCD displays a preview screen in real time and can be used as a status LCD to display data.

The Samsung Pro815 has a high-powered built in flash and can also control an external flash. Flash functions are off, auto, fill-in, slow sync and red-eye reduction. ISO equivalent speeds are auto/50/100/200/400/800 with White Balance in auto, manual, presets of daylight/cloudy/tungsten/fluorescent, 2 custom modes and a colour temperature adjustment.

Video can be shot as QVGA (320 x 24) and VGA (640 x 480) at 25fps in MPEG and AVI with stereo sound.

There is a choice of 11 scene modes with the Samsung Pro815 where settings have been preset to suitable particular situations and these include; landscape, portrait, night, children and fireworks.

The Samsung Pro815 meets the requirements of ambitious photographers with its comprehensive range of manual features. Manual exposure and focus features are standard and the three rings surrounding the lens provides direct control of manual operations. The Pro815 also supports Adobe RGB Color Space in addition to an 8MP non-compressed RAW file for greater flexibility.

This camera is EXCELLENT. I recently bought one as the one i had was a cheap nasty thing. This is excellent, the picture quality is sharp and really bright and colourful. Once youve got the settings perfect you can take some stunning photos. Also the zoom is crazilly good, just use a stand if you want to use full zoom

after two years with it, and comparing with canon rebel xti and compact is 750 and others, I can say it's a well rounded camera with more functions that the majority of peope (Apart of pros) will use. I like it, but the true, it has misfaults like unexpected shutterlags, not real zoom compared with canon slr's, and one can obtain similar pictures with less obstrusive gear like canon and olympus compacts, aside the zoom. In sume there're lot of good and excellent cameras now, it's a style and personality matter. Never in the optical' era, we had this massive quantity of very good stuff

A lovely camera that does most things an SLR can do without actually being one. It is comfortable in the hand and the LCD screen is crystal clear. I love this camera and recently won an amatuer landscape competition with a image taken with this camera.
