Sony DSC-N1 Cybershot - UK Digital Camera Review

Sony DSC-N1 Cybershot Review

The Sony DSC-N1 Cybershot has a stylish brushed aluminium body which houses an 8.1 megapixel HAD CCD, Carl Zeiss vario-tessar 3 x optical zoom lens together with a 6x precision digital zoom and a 15x VGA smart zoom. All this resulting in superb image quality whether far or close up shots.

The 3" clear photo LCD Plus screen adds to the ease of using the DSC-N1 as it features a touch-screen. This means that functions such as menu, playback, forward, reverse can be used by simply touching the screen. The Clear Photo LCD Plus technology also improves resolution giving sharpness to your images.

There are eight scene selection modes in the DSC-N1 Cybershot such as snow, twilight and beach which means that the camera will select the correct settings for the particular circumstance to assist you in achieving the best result. However, if you wish to be more creative then the DSC-N1 also has manual exposure which puts the decisions into your hands.

With its high sensitivity capability, the DSC-N1 can shoot up to ISO 800 which is useful when light conditions are low and it also improves the capture of smaller details and reduces blurring.

The DSC-N1 features a pocket album which means that it has the ability to store 500 images. These can be viewed on the large LCD screen and shared with friends and family. These images can also be viewed on a TV screen when connection is made. Unless an image is protected, when the camera has reached capacity it will automatically delete the oldest images to make room for new ones.

There are also four musical slide show styles to choose from to play back your images, active, simple, stylish and nostalgic. If you prefer, you can add your own background music.

The DSC-N1 runs on a lithium battery which because of the Sony Stamina technology has a good life and can be recharged with the charger supplied with the pack.

This camera is PictBridge compatible and is simple to connect to a PC, printer or television. Optional accessories are available including a housing for underwater shooting.

This camera is briliant. Its touchscreen is realy useful and the pictures and video are of the highest standard. Anyone who says this camera has bad quality photos obviously don't know how to use a digital camera.

What a dissapointment, the images are of poor quality and the flash is too harsh, dont buy this if you take a lot of indoor shots. The only decent feature is the screen which I think sony have spent too much money on and skimped on the more important items such as the lens and sensor. The screen is just a gimmick, do not buy for this alone.

This is my fourth camera so far and I was very taken with the idea of touch screen instruction. In practice I have found it a useful tool and being a 3" screen it is also easy to view shots. Excellent picture quality is achieved without much effort and there are various modes to chose from. I have found it also makes a very portable photo album and can keep friends up to speed with my experiences.

Not sure that this camera copes well with 8 megapixels, probably 6 would have produced better results. Pleased with the large screen and the touch screen operation, auto focus is very good and if it is not too dark shots can be taken without flash. Battery life is not brilliant.

Love the design of this camera and the fact that it is quite lightweight. Easy to carry and a great size to pop in my bag, I can take it with me wherever I go.

Have produced some superb quality pics and intend to get the marine housing so that I can take with some underwater shots on holiday.

When I get back I am going to make a slide show so that I can share my holiday with anyone who is interested.
