Sony DSC-P200 Cybershot - UK Digital Camera Review

Sony DSC-P200 Cybershot Review

The Sony DSC-P200 Cybershot is silver and is basically rectangular in shape but with one side rounded. This design means that it is comfortable in your hand and your images are less likely to suffer from blurring.

This model has a high quality Carl Zeiss lens and a range of zoom features. There is the basic 3x optical zoom which can be backed up by the 6x digital zoom and, in addition, there is also a 14x smart zoom capability.

The 7 megapixels allow you to either produce large prints or crop your images.

Indoor and outdoor photos are of very high quality and the DSC-P200 Cybershot has an acceptable recycling time.

Use of the fully automatic mode is a good way to begin to become familiar with this camera and then there are nine scene modes to choose from covering particular situations. These are; Landscape, Snow, Beach, Fireworks and Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Soft Snap, Hi speed shutter and Candle.

When you are feeling more adventurous there are advanced controls including; Daylight, Cloudy, Flash, Incandescent and Flourescent.

The 2" LCD screen or the optical viewfinder assists you to compose your shot and to access the menu.

The DSC-P200 has a built in flash which has a maximum range of 3.5m and in poor light the Auto Focus Illuminator can be engaged. A rechargeable battery is supplied with the camera together with a charger.

Movie mode in the DSC-P200 Cybershot produces good quality at a rate of 30 fps.

The DSC-P200 can be linked with a computer, television or a PictBridge compatible printer.

The Sony P200, three years later, still competes in the IQ department with cameras like the Canon G9, and other image stabilized and higher megapixel cameras. It's also smaller and has a shorter shutter lag than the G9 which is arguably the top P&S camera in 2007-2008.

Excellent camera - really easy to use and very versatile. I have had the camera for 14 months, taken in excess of 2000 pictures and not had one blurred picture. The main plus of this camera is the battery life - it's fantastic. I have the 2 GB card and even on max resolution, there is capacity for 570+ photos or 90 mins of video. The video is also very good - play back on the camera is OK - the sound is poor - but once you transfer the video to a PC or hook the camera into the TV / amp, the sound is really excellent. I don't personally care what colour the camera is or what it looks like - what I judge it on is the picture quality, SD size / capacity and battery life. The fact that it fits into a pocket easily is a bonus.

All round - this is an excellent camera - and I'm very happy with it.

This isn't too bad a camera, its quite good for an econmy camera and is very easy to use... Just don't keep checking the screen on the back as the batteries soon get used, but I am more than happy with this camera for all round general use...

I've had this camera a week now and I'm not that impressed, some of the photos I have taken have come out blurry and I have since heard that this is quite a common problem, it is also not that good at taking photos in poor light, I think Sony have concentrated too much on squeezing 7.2 Megapixels into this camera and not worrying too much about the rest, the screen is also quite small compared to other cameras in this price range. I definately think you can get a better camera for the money.

I have had a few cameras in my time and this one just does'nt cut it, the images are not that good quality and are sometimes blurry, it is lacking in features comparted to the competition, and the build quality is'nt as good as it should be (surprising for Sony). Battery life is good and it does have a quick startup but that just isnt enough.

I really enjoy using the P200, it is a nice shape and feels good in your hands, I love the look of it too, it fits nicely in my handbag and is not a chor to carry around. I have taken loads of photos and they have all come out well.

Not a great camera, I bought it because of the high resolution but my old Canon camera took better shots, the features are quite lacking as well.
