Sony DSC-S90 Cybershot - UK Digital Camera Review

Sony DSC-S90 Cybershot Review

The Sony DSC-S90 Cybershot is easy to use with the mode dial being on the top of the camera and the buttons controlling zoom, self timer, macro and flash on the back. Suitable for those wanting to point and shoot but at the same time offering features for the more experienced photographer.

The automatic shooting mode means that the DSC-S90 Cybershot will make the decisions relevant to exposure so that you only have to decide upon the content of your photo and press the button. Once experience has been acquired there are scene modes which can be utilised including Beach, Candle, Snow, Landscape and Twilight.

The DSC-S90 has a built in flash unit with a maximum range of 3.8m and various settings to select from. These range from automatic (when the camera decides), always on, always off and slow synchro. There is also the availability of the red eye reduction feature for portraits.

Movies can be shot and maximum resolution is 640x480 with a maximum speed of 30fps. Cables and software are available to link the DSC-S90 with a computer, television or a PictBridge compatible printer.

I bought this camera 1 week ago and so far have been quite impressed, the startup is fast, LCD a good size, Menus are intuitive and the quality of the photos and video are excellent. My only issues are that the memory stick cards are very expensive compared to other forms of storage and I would have liked it to be a little smaller, but otherwise it it an excellent camera.

We have had this camera only a few weeks and my computer no longer recognises it, I have had to resort to buying a memory card reader to get to my photos. Having said that it does take good photos and video and the batteries last well.

Great camera, the photos are fantastic, we took it on our holiday recently and managed to fill a 256MB memorystick, the video is also excellent, and is very easy to use. It looks like a very professional camera and seems to be built well. I would recommend buying a bigger memorystick when you buy the camera, at least 256MB.

I had tried a few cameras before deciding on the DSC-S90 but I decided on the Sony due to it's superior image quality and the large LCD screen. I have not been dissapointed with it at all, the photos are superb quality, and the video mode is good too, the 4.1 Megapixels allow you enough control if you need to crop your photo without loosing quality. The large screen is a major plus, once you've tried it you can't go back to a smaller screen, and the menus are clear and easy to use. It uses AA size batteries so you will never be caught short without your charger. The only issues I have found are that it does'nt take lens conversions like some of it's rivals, and the software is not that good, but a copy of PhotoShop Elements is not that expensive anyway.

I would definately recommend this as a family point and shoot camera that should last you a few years.
