Sony DSC-W7 Cybershot Review
With the range of features available, the Sony DSC-W7 Cybershot can be used by both amateurs and those who already have experience.
For the less experienced, use of the point and shoot facility means that the DSC-W7 Cybershot will make all the necessary adjustments and you just press the button.
For the more seasoned amateur there is a choice of further modes such as the preset scene modes; Soft Snap, Beach, Landscape, Candle, Twilight, Twilight portrait and Snow. There are also more advanced controls including centre and spot metering, multi pattern, ISO sensitivity, and white balance as well as a continuous shooting mode.
The control dial on the top of the DSC-W7 Cybershot accesses the scene modes as well as automatic, manual and movie. The buttons on the back of the camera control zoom, flash, macro and access to the menu system which is easy to operate.
The DSC-W7 has 3x optical zoom lens backed up by 6x digital zoom and 12x smart zoom with the macro function bringing you as close as 6cm to your subject.
The large 2.5" LCD screen which is part of the DSC-W7 Cybershot allows you to compose your shots and access the menu whilst also advising battery power level, over or under exposure, memory level or shake alert.
There is a flash unit built within the DSC-W7 which has four settings; automatic, always fire, not fire and slow synchro. Red eye reduction can also be chosen and in poor light the auto focus illuminator can be utilised.
The Sony DSC-W7 shoots quality movies with a maximum resolution of 640x480 and a top speed of 30fps and can be connected to a television, computer or PictBridge compatible printer.
AA rechargeable batteries and a charger are supplied with the DSC-W7 which also has 32mb of built in memory.

I have 2 Sony cybershots W5 and now the W7 both of these cameras are really excellent to use small, compact and fantastic quality do you get with your photographs,I have now purchased the Cybershot H5 as I want a better zoom and some other features.I like all 3 of these cameras and am not selling any of them, as I usually do when buying a new camera. Sony is absolutely great for cameras. I love em all!.

I have just upgraded to the Sony DSC-W7 Cybershot and bought the smart black model as most of my wardrobe is black. I am really impressed with the quality and clearness of my pictures, and it doesn't matter if I am using zoom or not, the quality is the same. The fact that it will take AA batteries is also a big plus and these are always easy to buy wherever you are.
I had read a few reviews before buying and have not regretted my choice.

A very easy to use camera with quick response time. It has lots of features to play with and, best of all, produces fantastically clear photographs. The large LCD screen is a bonus and what you see is what you get.
The only comment I would make is that when I use the red eye reduction for portrait shots, it takes longer to take the photo.

I bought my W7 because the price was within budget and it seemed to be good value for money. However, after using it for a few months I found that the lens stopped retracting into the body and it wouldn't work. It has now been repaired so I will wait and see what happens.
Having said that, apart from the above, I have found this camera to be very easy to use and it produces superb photographs. I found that having the larger LCD screen was an asset as I could see clearly what I had shot. AA batteries are also a very good idea, easy to carry spares around.

My boyfriend bought me my DSC-W7 Cyber-shot for our anniversary (of when we first met) because I love taking photographs. I have found this camera easy to use as the control dial is on the top of the camera and I can quickly choose what I want. My understanding is that this has one of the best lens on the market and I have certainly managed to take some fantastic photographs - not sure if it is the camera or me, perhaps a combination of both! It also has a lot of features which I will work my way through gradually so it should keep me going for a while.

I would say that I was not a total amateur but not professional either and I have found this digital camera very impressive.
The controls are simple to use, the LCD screen gives a very clear image of your shot, it is quick and it creates excellent photographs whether they be normal, zoom or close-up.
The visual display on the LCD screen is also useful because if I know I am going to take quite a few photographs, I can check battery and memory power beforehand.
Have not regretted this purchase.
